1987 Four Winns 211
Liberator
Loaded to the max!
You looking for a classic? You just found one! The 211
Liberator was, hands down, among the most popular boats ever by Four
Winns. This boat will never go out of style and will
still turn heads as you pass by! '87 was the last year FW built this design;
incorporating teak trim in the cockpit, all teak swim platform. These boats have
CLASS unlike later models with "integrated" swim platforms which rob cockpit
area...If you are familiar with Four Winns boats, especially, the pre '88
models, you know exactly what I am talking about!
I am the second owner of this boat (since '91 or
so). It hasn't been in the water in five years. Stored indoors/winters. All
service has been done professionally by Mike Hartung owner of The
Boat Doctors in Indian River Michigan. Mike has been a professional marine
mechanic for 30+ years and is well respected in the area.
In 2005, this boat was pulled out of storage and run for
about an hour or so in the shop. Good to go. The last season it was run, it
purred like Swiss watch. The boat is mechanically perfect.
I will list all the features below... This is a heavy deep
V that will take just about any sort of great lakes water. Incredibly safe and
seaworthy. It has a 340hp 460ci Ford big block and ultra reliable King Cobra
outdrive. Through the hull exhaust with "dapper" water mufflers which tame the
roar without restricting engine air flow-through.
The first thing you think: I DON'T WANT ONE OF THOSE BIG
ENGINE GAS SUCKERS!
A boat of this size and type WOULD BE a gas sucker with a
smaller engine working hard to push it. This boat can be a gas sucker with the
throttle down and the Holly 650 open. Let me put it this way: Going fast
costs fuel. If you have 6-8 passengers in the boat and want to bring it up on
the water in a hurry, there is more than enough power to do so.
This Liberator also has Bennet Hydraulic Trims to
further adjust the plane attitude and give the stern added lift. The added
contribution to fuel efficiency is HUGE. Personally, I would never consider a
Liberator without trim tabs. I have been spoiled. Once on plane, work the trims against the tach and bring it
into optimum efficient cruise speed....This boat is far more fuel efficient than
one with say a 350 because of the torque. It gets great mileage at cruising
speed.
Engine hours: (I am going by recollection). I believe the
hour meter shows 360+/- hours. I am not near the boat where I can check
it. KEEP READING!
I don't recall the year, (mid 90's) The boat was
vandalized by someone who partially removed the oil filter. To make a long story
short, the engine was replaced at around the
260 hour mark. I estimate the current engine has around 100+/- hours on
it. Barely broken in! Mike Hartung/Boat Doctors (referenced above) can
verify this, as the work was done by them.
It comes with a tandem axle SHORLANDER trailer with roller
bunks. It was cleaned and repainted 5 years ago. The trailer has
hydraulic surge brakes. Don't ask me about tire condition. They look OK without
weather checking. Hold air. This trailer hasn't seen 15 miles in 15
years!

OVERALL CONDITION:
There are no gouges, damage or repairs to the hull. I
would give it 98%. The Blue tends to oxidize and could probably stand to be
rubbed out. The hull was coated was a proctetant which is removable with
ammonia. There are a couple small areas near the stern where the gel coat has
minimal spider- cracks. This isn't structural and has been like this since I
bought the boat. You would have to look for it to see it.
The teak swim platform has never been left to weather. It
is due for a clean up and coat of sealer. No damage.
Upholstery is A1. no tears, fading. The rear engine deck
cover upholstery has two 1/2" areas along the stitching that need attention. The
upholstery isn't weathered or sun bleached.
INSPECTION: This boat is parked in my
back yard, at my summer cottage in Indian River, Michigan. I would have to meet
you there BY APPOINTMENT. Boat Tags are expired,
Trailer license is expired. The boat is winterized and will need to be
recommissioned. I really don't care to spend the time and money on the effort
until I am certain the boat is sold.
The title is clear, The balance to be paid by bank draft
at the time of pick up. I recommend inspecting the boat prior to bidding. I will
not negotiate the price during or after the close of the auction.
This is a REALLY nice boat with all the features that
would cost THOUSANDS as options on a new boat. A1 Mechanical and well taken care
of. These Classic Liberators with "every option added", in this condition, don't
come up for sale all that often. The survivors are now appreciating in
value!
After sitting for 5 years, I am reluctantly putting it up
for sale. I and my friend and family have had many summers of fun in this boat.
And there are as many summers left! This boat has been dependable. It is as
seaworthy as they come with countless miles traveled through Michigan's inland
waterway and the straits. I guess it is time to let someone else take the helm
and have some fun!
